Focus on World Languages

Learning a foreign language is a necessity for today’s students to succeed in the global workplace. Lexington County School District One recognized its importance and developed The Center for World Languages and International Business.

Today, the district provides a study of world languages in grades K-12 in French, German, Spanish, Latin, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Hindi. These courses allow students to improve their heritage-language skills while learning and mastering English.

The program expands students' view of the world and builds practical skills that may be used in other disciplines. World language is part of the core curriculum in middle school. K-2 students learn world languages and cultures through a partial immersion program in Spanish, French, or Mandarin Chinese.
